Residents gather for tax march in the Market Common

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach residents gathered at Valor Park in the Market Common Saturday. Protestors aimed to pressure President Trump to release his federal tax forms.

“Will it do anything, it has to do something over time. The only way we’re ever going to get government to act is keep them on their heels and show up,” said Arik Bjorn.

Last year, Donald Trump became the first major-party political nominee in over 40 years to choose not to release his federal taxes. Organizations around the country decided to use this Tax Day and turn it into a nationwide Rally. The group that organized the event is called Grand Strand Action Together. Organizers said they hope this will pressure the president to act, or at least get others in on the conversation.

“Maybe this will encourage people to start thinking,” said May Barr, a Grand Strand Action Now organizer. “Maybe we’re not going to be the one group to get him to finally share his taxes but we can inspire people.”

And while the event brought plenty of supporters, other people enjoying their day at the Market Common said they don’t agree with the movement.

“Unfortunately I think it’s a little misguided. The reality is both this president and former president is required to follow a disclosure form. There is more information on the disclosure form by a lot then any tax return,” said Lynn Mueller.
