Deputies: Burglary suspect told them he was ‘playing a game,’ claimed to be federal agent

SALEM, SC (FOX Carolina) –

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect told deputies responding to a burglary call he had been playing a game and also claimed to be a federal law enforcement agent.

Deputies said Andrew Michael Wilson, 38, of Sunrise Drive, Salem, was arrested on charges of burglary first degree and assault and battery third degree.

Deputies said they received a call from a homeowner at another address on Sunrise Drive who said they saw a man peeking into their living room from their basement stairs.

The homeowner ordered the man to leave and had to physically remove Wilson from the home. Deputies said Wilson tried to hit the homeowner several times but did not make contact. Wilson fled before deputies arrived.

Wilson and the homeowner did not know each other.

Wilson returned to the home as deputies were investigating.

“ The subject told the deputy that he was playing a game and knocked on the basement door of the residence, with someone inside telling him to come in,” said Jimmy Watt, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. “Wilson also told the deputy he was a federal law enforcement agent but could not provide any credentials as such.”

Wilson was arrested at the scene and is being held without bond
