Stephen Colbert announces full funding for 84 classroom projects in Charleston Co. schools

Donors Choose is a website that allows teachers to post their classroom projects. From there, people can donate money to help fund them.

Charleston County School District teachers had 98 projects listed on the site, now every single one is funded thanks to a San Francisco company called Ripple, which donated $29 million to fund every single project on the site.

Late Show host Stephen Colbert broke the news on The Late Show.

The funded CCSD projects total more than $67,000 for schools all over Charleston County, according to the district. They ranged from carpets at James Island Elementary School to a stationary bike at Laurel Hill primary. The full list of projects can be found here.

Colbert grew up in Charleston, where he attended the private Porter-Gaud school. He’s also on the Donors Choose board of directors. The site claims it has funded more than one million projects and reached more than 27 million students.
