BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) –

Someone who shot at Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office deputies Thursday morning is still on the run.

Deputies tried to stop a black Chevy Avalanche for an equipment violation near Main Street and College Park Road. When the vehicle didn’t stop, a pursuit led deputies from Myers Road into the Wingate mobile home park, according to BCSO spokesman Mike Cochran.

The suspect fired a handgun but didn’t hit the deputy during the pursuit, Cochran said. The vehicle stopped in the 200 block of Bayonet Drive and an unknown male and female fled on foot, according to Cochran.

A person was seen in handcuffs at one point during the search.

Both entrances to the Wingate trailer park on Myers Road were blocked off because of the search before deputies went to an area roughly half a mile away around 5:30 a.m. near St. James Avenue. The scene on St. James Avenue has since been cleared.

Berkeley County School District spokeswoman Katie Orvin said there will be extra patrols on Thursday, but schools are operating as normal because law enforcement advised them the suspect doesn’t pose a threat to the schools.

This is a developing story. Please check back for more updates.
