Cold start Friday, watching for weekend rain

Unseasonably chilly weather will wrap up the work week, then rain heads our way for the weekend.

Lows will drop to 28 for the Upstate and 23 for western NC by early Friday morning, so be sure to protect any flowers you may have planted outside.

Friday will be sunny area-wide with highs in the 50s. Moisture begins to push back in Friday night, and that could lead to a brief wintry mix Saturday AM in the mountains. Otherwise expect isolated showers through Saturday with highs in the 50s to near 60. More widespread rain arrives Sunday. Heaviest is expected toward midday.

A few t-storms can’t be ruled out midday and afternoon on Sunday, but there won’t be a lot of “energy” for the storms to get strong. We could see 1-2 inches of rain over just a few hours, then conditions will dry out Sunday night.

More mountain snow will push in Sunday night, while the Upstate is looking mostly dry. Highs will be seasonably cool to start next week, but more freezing overnight temps arrive toward Wednesday.
