School district: Elementary school worker charged in sting targeting suspected child predators

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) –

The Pickens County School District confirmed that one of the 45 suspects arrested by Greenville County deputies in a sting targeting child predators was an employee at an elementary school prior to his arrest.

Greenville County deputies said Thomas Carr III was charged with first-degree attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and criminal solicitation of a minor as part of Operation Millstone.

Dozens of suspects were arrested in a sting, included one man from Myrtle Beach, who deputies wanted to cannibalize a child.

The Pickens County School District said Carr worked as an after-care employee at Chastain Road Elementary School. He is no longer employed by the school district.

Carr’s arrest did not stem from incidents involving any children at the school.

The school’s principal sent a letter to parents on Feb. 28, the day before the sheriff’s office announced the arrests in the operation.

Below is the letter:

Dear Parents:

Last week, we were informed by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office that after-care employee, Thomas Carr, had been charged with Criminal Solicitation of a Minor. The information we have received from the GCSO indicates that the charges are NOT related to any of our students. Mr. Carr is no longer employed with our school district.

The safety of our students is our top priority. All of our employees are required to pass a background check and submit to abuse-prevention training before working in our schools. If you have any questions concerning Mr. Carr or the safety procedures in place at our school, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.
