Man dies after being found unresponsive in front yard of Lumberton home


LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) – Police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive in the front yard of a home on Peach Tree Drive Wednesday evening; the man was later pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, according to a release from the Lumberton Police Department.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old James Bethea, whose cause of death will be determined once an autopsy is completed.

James Matthew McDougald, 37, of Lumberton, is charged with first degree murder, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. McDougald is being held without bond on the murder charge, and $100,000 bond on the remaining two charges. He is currently being held at the Robeson County Detention Center.
