People across South Carolina will participate in a tornado drill Wednesday.
Co-sponsored by the National Weather Service and the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, the drill is scheduled to begin around 9 a.m.
It’s also coordinated with the South Carolina Department of Education, which says the drill isn’t intended to interfere with testing or prescheduled activities.
If schools can’t conduct the drill on Wednesday, the Department of Education is asking schools to conduct it at a time that might be more convenient for them.
SCEMD is asking people to practice what they would do if a tornado was spotted in their area. Go indoors if possible to a sheltered area such as a basement, storm cellar or lowest building level. If no basement is available, go to the center of an interior room away from corners, windows, doors and outside walls.
