Inmate dies after being found unresponsive


Greenville, S.C. (AP) – Officials say a 26-year-old North Carolina woman who was found unresponsive in a holding celling in a county detention center in South Carolina has died.

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis tells The Greenville News that Nathlee Nicole Wright died at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Addis says Wright was found unresponsive in her cell around 2 p.m. Saturday and taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities say Wright was alone in a single-occupancy cell when discovered unresponsive.

Addis says no traumatic events involving Wright in the jail were reported.

A South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesman confirmed that the state is investigating the death.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.
