2 die in plane crash in eastern South Carolina


GREELEYVILLE, S.C. (AP) – Two people have died in the crash of a small airplane in eastern South Carolina.

The Williamsburg County sheriff’s office told local media that emergency responders were called to the crash off state Highway 375 near Greeleyville on Wednesday evening.

County Fire Capt. William Horton said a hunter in a deer stand called around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Horton said first-responders arrived at the scene of the burning twin-engine Cessna before 7 p.m.

The bodies have been sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for autopsies. The names of the victims have not been released.

The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to be at the scene Thursday.

The crash occurred about 55 miles (88 kilometers) north of Charleston.
