SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) – A South Carolina jury has found a man guilty of killing a man while robbing him and shooting his girlfriend in the head as she tried to escape.
Solicitor Barry Barnette announced Wednesday that a jury found 31-year-old Steven Lewis of Greensboro, North Carolina, guilty of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and first-degree burglary. Lewis was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus a consecutive 30 years.
Prosecutors say Lewis and Jason Cash of Inman shot 40-year-old Carey Mauldin multiple times after breaking into his home near Chesnee in May 2015. They also bound the head, wrists and ankles of Mauldin’s girlfriend with duct tape. She managed to get to a neighbor’s after the shooters fled in Mauldin’s car.
Cash was convicted in March and sentenced to life.
