HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A Hartsville man has been sentence to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder for the death of a 21-month old girl in Hartsville in December 2013.
Timothy Oneal Sanders was sentenced Friday for the death of Madison Dolford, who died from a single gunshot wound at a home in Hartsville on December 3, 2013, confirmed Fourth Circuit Deputy Solicitor Kernard Redmond.
“The bottom line is that this was obviously a horrendous act,” Redmond said. “I felt that at the very least he should get life in this situation.” Redmond said he could not comment further on the case due to a gag order in place. April Dixon, Madison’s mother, is also charged with murder for the child’s death, and is scheduled to go to trial in June, Redmond said.
Sanders pleaded guilty to the murder and was sentenced by Judge Steven John to life in prison after prosecutors withdrew the death sentence, due to the fact that Sanders was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2016, Redmond said.
During the plea hearing, Madison’s biological father Oscar Dolford addressed the court. Redmond said Dolford was obviously very upset about the loss of his daughter, and the way that it happened. Apparently Dolford went to the hospital to console Sanders, not knowing that he was the man who shot and killed his daughter.
