MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes and the Myrtle Beach City Council invited the public to come out for a stroll on the boardwalk Wednesday in celebration of April being National Walking Month.
The walk started at 9 a.m. and covered the two miles between Second Avenue Pier and the SkyWheel at Plyler Park.
“You always have an excuse that you don’t have time,” Rhodes said. “Sometimes you need to take time. You need to get out and exercise and walk.”
The Mayo Clinic suggests regular brisk walking to help maintain a healthy weight and prevent heart disease and type two diabetes. The Centers for Disease Control also recommends adults get at least two hours and 30 minutes of walking every week.
