NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Construction is underway on South Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. While some residents are excited about the change, others are frustrated that construction is still going on.
“I guess you could say the construction is disturbing. A lot of streets are blocked off and it made the area hard to navigate,” said Parker Martin, a visitor from North Carolina.
Hotel managers say the construction has inspired other resorts in the area to renovate.
“It was a blessing in disguise, I mean at first we saw that and it’s kind of, ‘Oh no, our place is torn up and we need to spend money,’ but at the same time it needed it, and when that happened a light bulb came on and it’s going to be a win-win for us and all the visitors coming to Myrtle Beach,” said Jonathon Ennis of Seaside Resort.
The renovations to the street include a new sewer system from 15th Avenue to 28th Avenue. Power lines on the street will eventually be moved underground, so residents won’t have to worry about falling polls during a storm.
“I think it’ll be perfect,” said Helen Loveland, a new resident to North Myrtle Beach, “There will be no more poles, no more wires, perfect drainage.”
Now crews are hoping the first phase of construction will be finished by the summer. Then in the fall another crew will come in to start working on the power lines.
