COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) –

The spotlight has been on the South Carolina Gamecocks men’s and women’s basketball teams for the last three weeks now.

On Wednesday, Frank Martin and Dawn Staley found themselves under a slightly different spotlight. The two coaches were invited on stage at the Darius Rucker concert before the country music star and USC alum took the stage. Martin and Staley were joined by University of South Carolina president Harris Pastides as they both started the Gamecock chant at Colonial Life Arena.

Thank you @dariusrucker for inviting our own national champ coach @dawnstaley to be a celebrity starter to get the concert going! #Gamecockspic.twitter.com/jZIh5Tit8W

The concert was held at Colonial Life Arena after Will Muschamp and the USC football team collected six wins this season.

Fast forward four months later, the university’s basketball teams also made headlines with their runs in the NCAA Tournament. Martin’s squad pulled off upset after upset to reach the Final Four while Staley’s team got past every obstacle standing in their way to winning the national title.
