NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (AP) – Two state transportation workers have been struck and killed in a hit and run near North Augusta.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said the collision happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday just east of Interstate 520 near the Georgia-South Carolina state line.
Beres said a tan vehicle hit three transportation workers and two of them have died. Their names have not been released. The third worker suffered only minor injuries. Beres did not know what the DOT workers were doing at the time.
Beres said troopers are checking a vehicle found nearby to determine if it hit the victims. The driver of that vehicle has not been found.
A spokesman for the transportation department said the agency would have a statement later Monday.
