Man attempts to hit deputy with car following car chase, deputies say

A driver is facing multiple charges after leading Richland County deputies on a chase and attempting to hit one of the deputies with his car.

Lawrence Bobby Armstrong, 27, is charged with attempted murder and driving under suspension.

Richland County deputies attempted to pull over Armstrong’s car at about 1 a.m. Saturday morning on Rosewood Drive and Assembly Street after seeing him disregard a traffic control device. Deputies say Armstrong refused to stop for blue lights and a chase began. He wrecked on the off ramp of I-126 at Bush River Road.

As one of the deputies walked up to Armstrong’s car, deputies say he attempted to hit the deputy with his car. Another deputy on the scene drove his patrol car in between Armstrong’s car and the deputy. Armstrong then hit the front end of the patrol car and continued driving away. The vehicle pursuit then resumed.

Armstrong fled on foot at Zimalcrest Drive and Betty Lane and K-9 deputies tracked him to a home nearby on Friendly Lane. He was arrested at the home without further incident.
